DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that the first online dating app to employ “swipe method” was the app Tinder? At first, Tinder didn’t have its famous swiping motion. In fact, it didn’t really exist, and it became the first “swiping app” when it adopted that type of user interface, and opened up the door to both riches and the future of other apps that use a similar UI.
Tinder is a location-based social search mobile app launched on September 2012 that allows users to like or dislike other users and allows users to chat if both parties swiped to the right (a match). Interestingly, Tinder won as the most popular dating app, with 42 percent of mentions among those surveyed. Among Millennials, that number was even higher, with 70 percent of them revealing they use it. And it makes sense: The app seems to always be adding new fun features, from having users name their favorite song, their "anthem," having a linked Instagram or Spotify account. And the ability to "Super Like" someone, a feature to let the user know that a certain person stands out from everyone else. Created by Sean Rad, Justin Mateen, Jonathan Badeen, Joe Munoz, Whitney Wolfe, and Chris Gylczynski, Tinder has over 10 million users daily with an average person logging in 11 times a day and swiping results in over 15 million matches a day.
