"I purchased this as a gift for my step-son, he is absolutely obsessed with it and will not put it down! Yo-Kai Watch 2 is an amazing sequel because it that takes all of them game play, rules, and game design from what worked in the first game, refines the playing process and smooths out the wrinkles by expanding the frontiers in all the right directions creating an Role Playing Game (RPG) that kids literally become hooked on, non-stop. It might appear as though it is a Pokémon clone, but it's actually a big, immersive sandbox adventure with some great ideas of its own. It reminds me of a blend of Final Fantasy and Zelda games. I was playing it for a few hours and my step-son was getting upset because I would not share the controller. The style, comedy, and varying difficulty level settings will make it a RPG aimed for younger players, but don't dismiss it even if you like your RPG games to have dark themes and adult humor. You never know, Yo-Kai Watch 2 might be exactly what you need even if you are an Adult."

"Funny how Dragon City is ranked number 1 on this site and from a couple of other sites I visited when looking for the best alternative game for Pokemon. I've seen comments that it is so unlike Pokemon that it should be taken down. Well, you know what? That is why it is called an ALTERNATIVE game!!!! I wish those guys would play Zombie games in real life because they'll be safe. The Zombies will not pay them much attention. Why? Because it seems like they don't have brains at all!!! LOL!!! I just vented. Dragon City is a fun game with a great storyline and very good graphics for a free game!"

"This is one of those titles that the Pokemon and Digimon shut down. Monster Rancher was a good title, interesting and had a lot of promise. But they run into Pokemon and Digimon so as they say, the rest is history. Digimon also suffered due to Pokemon's domination. It's nice to see these games back again. Especially for Monster Rancher. I have always been a fan of this and the game took me back in time. It has the feel of the old show and the gameplay in this game is superb. So unlike Pokemon that it deserves to be included in this best alternative list to Pokemon."

"Now, this is the best Pokemon alternative for me. I grew up watching both Pokemon and Digimon on TV and I know the history of both games. What drew me to Pokemon was Pikachu of course but as I grew up, I made the unconscious switch to Digimon. Maybe because I felt like Pokemon was for kids and Digimon, with its more serious tone, is a game for young adults. Now, this game is very similar, yet in a lot of sense, very different from Pokemon. I've played it with my kids and they definitely share their old man's love of Digimon."

"Fun game for the kids. I've seen children go at this game for hours during weekends or during rainy days. Instead of scurrying around and destroying the house, they get a kick out of playing this game. They learn how to communicate and coordinate playing this game, which, truth be told is a better alternative than seeing our house wrecked. So, besides this game being a good alternative for Pokemon, it is also a good alternative if you want your house to be safe from these little beasts, errr, children. LOL!!!"

"Now, this is an interesting development. I grew up collecting Pokemon cards and playing the pokemon games on Gameboy and Nintendo64 and I have never heard of this undertaking before. I wouldn't necessarily call it an alternative to Pokemon games; as it is essentially a Pokemon game, but I think this is a very interesting idea. With the unveiling of Pokemon Go! I believe that options like this may have fallen by the wayside, but I will always support projects that curry this kind of youthful nostalgia."

"I have played 'mons' type games (Pokemon, Digimon etc) since I was old enough to operate a controller - I still remember Pokemon Red/Blue on the old, original Game Boy. In the over twenty years since then, I have never played a game as great as Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2. A sequel to the original, this game improves on the formula in every major respect, including also a brilliant story and delicately-balanced gameplay. It is fun both for experts and for casual players alike!"

"Here we go again. Pokemon-like games which are like, surprise, surprise, the Pokemon game itself!!! However, having said that, it really is a good alternative to Pokemon. It has the Pokemon feel and the basic plot. But the game-phase is really quick. While it offers users to purchase something in-game with real money, the users aren't really forced to since they can obtain some of those monsters if they have the patience. Overall, this is a good solution for this problem."

"Generations is a relatively new game but it is still a game based on Pokemon. You can argue that it could be an alternative since it is not really the official game. But it could be the official game as it uses the official characters found in the game. That said, it is still a nice game before it got shot down. Now that it's back, I expect it to make back on top and be taken down again!!! LOLOLOLOL"

WorkeMon is great because it looks like Pokemon's graphics and has a cartoon-like feel. It has a trainer, a turn-based RPG battle system resembling Pokemon, and there is a progress of growth throughout the game."

"Rick and Morty is a phenomenal show so naturally, a game based on the show is bound to be as good. Well, not as good. But good nonetheless. This game has a great concept but people, especially those not-so-smart people will hate this because they won't be able to grasp the hidden jokes or even the relevance to the existing genre. HAHA. But a fun game and a good alternative to Pokemon."

You can be a single player or join multi-player games. It's $9.99 for the base version - not bad for something that can provide hours upon hours of engaging entertainment."

If some of the features from this game were added to Sun and Moon and especially Pokemon Go it'd improve those games a lot, but Insurgance as a stand alone mostly fails."

But then, the game's targets are Pokemon lovers so I do understand why it was built that way. Still a good, solid MMORPG game."
