"The "Vampire Academy" books are not exactly high art, but they do compare somewhat well to the fairly maligned "Twilight" books, which are most definitely not groundbreaking works of fiction either! It's a little more complex and intricate than Twilight, so I suppose it might be of marginally greater educational value. This is the first book in this series, so this is the one to buy if you want to get into this collection of, I believe, six related works."

"I love the sultry, atmospheric setting of these books, which get better the crazier the plots get! While there are a lot of characters and happenings to keep track of, it feels exciting rather than overwhelming. The main character is very likable and keeps the reader grounded throughout the book. And the dialogue is so funny!"

"The Vampire Chronicles is written by Anne Rice, a celebrated author who is known for her vampire romance novels. Though it is not as popular with millennial readers, it has received very positive reviews from critics and readers alike. It is an ideal alternative to the Twilight series."

"I tried to read through Frostbite, but I didn't realize it was the second book in the series. I wasn't at all impressed, I was hoping for more of a story like The Strain, with horrible creatures of the night destroying lives. I got store brand Twilight instead."

"I liked this novel much better than the Twilight Saga as that has become stale lately. This is fresh and opens up a more personal look at the master vampire, Rhage. Travel along the quest for survival and high-strung emotions with this book."

"This is the best knock-off twilight series I have found yet. I like vampires, werewolves and the like as well as brooding supernatural angst. Book two takes a little bit to warm up, but once it gets rolling the paranormal intrigue is great."

"Catalyst empowers women rather than tearing them down to cower behind the might of their supernatural boyfriends. This is a wonderful alternative to the type of teen vampire fiction that has permeated the genre for the past decade."
