"One caution up front: Cormac McCarthy is in no way a "romance" novelist. If you're coming to his novels for heaving bodices and scenes of tender love-making, you've come to the wrong place. And this novel isn't really a story of the "Old west" either: it takes place in the period before World War II. The story is compulsively readable for sure, but make sure you know what you're in for."

"For most part, I liked it, and really enjoyed Jenny's character and quest, as it were. The only place it falls down is in the romance part, where she suddenly loses her brain whenever there is someone mildly attractive around. I skipped past these sections, because while I like a certain amount of romance, I don't like it when it makes the characters stupid. "

""One Night with a Cowboy" is a cheesy romance book which has nothing to do the American Old West but is about a female teacher and a cowboy who also happens to be a soldier and happens to go to Afghanistan. Now this book tries to be multiple things at the same time but fails to do so. If you write a book about simple romance, don't shove some serious topics in your plot such as the ugliness of war and things like that. In other words, the book is not consistent and tries too hard to seem more than it really is. "

"I love to read period pieces especially if it is combined with a bit of romance. When I found the book A Midwife Crisis, I thought it checked both of those boxes. However, after making it nearly half way through the book, I had to stop reading. The book my be good for someone looking for a very leisurely read, but it isn't up to the reading level of someone that needs a really strong story and character arch to stay interested. "

"I didn't really like this book. A woman is sold off to a man in a lottery and then they must work together to become a team. I found the book really sexist overall and I wasn't really comfortable with the concept in general. The whole plot just fell flat for me and I don't think that the characters were well written either. It just doesn't work for me."
