Shazam is a free app for iOS, Android, and Android Wear watches. It is a tool for discovering music by listening to what is currently playing in order to identify that name of the song and the artist.

"Shazam was my go-to song identification app for a long time; I would always give it a go when I wanted to figure out what song was playing in the grocery store or something. However, more and more recently it has a really hard time identifying songs. I get the feeling that its database is not being updated with more obscure things, which makes it tricky when I am in a place with an eclectic soundtrack, or something weird comes on the radio. I would have rated this more highly in the past, but it's been disappointing lately."

" Soundhound has become a must have app for me. I can't even tell you how many times I heard a song and had to remember lyrics to look up at a later time in order to find out who is playing. Not only has this stopped that nonsense it is right most of the time for me. As an added bonus I like to play a game with the app trying to stump it."

MusicID is a song recognition app that you can use to figure out what song is playing around you. Even saves the songs in the app, so you can go through them later. It also recommends other songs that are similar to the one the app recognised.

"I am a total music lover - but with two small children and a job, I rarely have a second to sit down and learn more about what I'm listening to, or even figure out what I might like. So after searching around a bit, I decided to download MusicID. I can use the app to figure out the title/artist of a song that's playing. The songs get saved into a list - so if I don't have the time to look into it right away, I can go back to it when I do have the time. MusicID will even suggest similar songs to ones that I have searched for."

"Musixmatch is cool in that it finds the songs with the actual lyrics being sung or spoken in the song. I've found that it's not as accurate as some of its competitors, but it's pretty cool."

This app will detect what song is playing near you and display the lyrics of it, so you will know both the title and what the song is about. You will be able to download these lyrics and share them along the song with anyone.

"This is okay, but I think Spotify is so much better. If you just want to get the song and lyrics and nothing else this is fine I guess. "
