In a report by Business Wire, the global gaming simulator market can rake up to $7.7 billion in revenues because of the growing audience. An article in Gamasutra claimed that simulator games have a limited market, with only two key markets: boys too young to play "cooler" games like Call of Duty and Counter-Strike or men aged 35+ wanting to play games closer to their occupation.
But Technavio's study presented that the market is growing, especially in Asia where flying games like Flight Pilot Simulator 3D Free or X-Plane 10 Flight Simulator and driving simulator games like Heavy Bus Simulator and Impossible Bus Simulator are slowly increasing in market share than the traditional leaders, the racing simulators. Based on the compounded annual rate of growth, flying games will experience the highest percentage in the growth of market share, since it is relatively small, but with technology making the gameplay of flight simulators better, it is expected to boom in the next five years. Other subgenres of simulation games like fight sports, biking, dating are also expected to see an upturn in market share.
