"We all have our favorite text app, but Google Hangouts has an advantage over all others that I've appreciated more than once. When myself or one of my daughter's had either lost our phones or were in between phones, we could use Hangouts -- from the PC -- to make a phone call. It's a great functionality that has come in handy many times. In addition, I enjoy being able to have a quick text chat with a friend I haven't heard from in awhile who just sent me an email. My only complaint, I think, is that Google should make the functionality a stand-alone app rather than integrated on the email page."

"I downloaded this app due it's level of customization (I recently upgraded from an iPhone but missed the feel of the iPhone texting app). Overall I'm really happy with it. The emojis are awesome, the customization is fun while still looking sophisticated and sleek. My only complaint is that the app sometimes crashes when it's open in the background (I'll receive the in-screen notification while using another app) and some texts will occasionally not send so it prompts me to retry sending them. "Never use it. I use messenger primarily to send links of stories to a friend. I dont have time to waste sending stupid pictures of myself with bunny ears. Waste of time."

"If your default texting app is making you have fits then this might help but i didn't find the charm very long lasting. There's a paid version that might be better, but why pay for something your phone does for free?"

"Handcent is great, a really quick and simple way to send messages if you've using Android. The animated emojis really make messaging fun, and there's also just a great and clean design for the app on Android phones. It sort of reminds me of a Google app, with the very clear coding and aesthetics. You can also back up your texts and save them if you want, which is good for me because I like to reminisce about conversations, or see the first text I ever sent to someone. "
