DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that a lot of people didn't believe Android would become the influential company it is today? Android, the most used operating system for mobile devices, was invented by a small team of developers in 2004. A team led by Andy Rubin, whom the Android name was based on, once went to Samsung to get funding for putting the operating system on the market, but the latter didn't think the OS would reach its potential. “‘You and what army are going to go and create this? You have six people. Are you high?’ is basically what they said," recalled Rubin of his meeting with the Korean company. Two weeks later, Google bought Android for $50 million and Rubin. With the influx of money, Rubin and his team were able to improve Android and use it as operating systems of mobile phones. The partnership has been beneficial to both since Android has reportedly become a $66 billion company. Talk about a missed opportunity for Samsung. LOL.
The driving force behind Android's success is it is an open source program that can be used by all phone manufacturers, unlike Apple's iOS that is exclusive to its own devices. Another factor to Android's success is the millions of apps that can be installed on these devices. Many of these apps are even optimized for Android tablets with large screens. Want an irony? one of the top-selling Android tablets of all time is the - wait-for-it - Samsung Galaxy Tab.
