"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is without a doubt one of the greatest films of all time. But the movie is only as good as its actors. And this movie has a plethora of good actors, Andy Serkis stands out in my mind for his portrayal of Gollum. Serkis is the best motion capture actor in the business."

"The Two Towers is personally my favorite Lord of the Rings movie. I liked how the Fellowship shifted their attention to the two halflings instead of chasing after Frodo and Sam. I specifically loved Andy Serkis' performance as Gollum. The story is great and all, but it was Gollum who did it for me. Especially the scene where Smeagol vanished Gollum."

"You have to imagine how I felt watching this movie for the first time. I haven't read the book and I had no clue what would happen and what the plot of the story was. Then came Gollum, a monstrous creature with murderous eyes. Now, the orcs were scary enough. But Gollum brought a certain something in LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring. And watching it for the first time, Andy Serkis gave me the creeps. And I am not one to be easily scared!"

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that Gollum, J.R.R. Tolkien’s troubled and mentally-ill antagonist given life by Andy Serkis in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, is not the first main motion-captured character in a feature-length film? While Serkis is universally regarded as the Godfather of Motion-Captured Acting for his phenomenal performance as the balding, pale, old hobbit, it is Ahmed Best and his performance as Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace that is credited for opening motion-capture acting, or mo-cap acting, in mainstream movies. But make no mistake though, Serkis almost single-handedly raised mo-cap acting into its current glory.

Serkis, who began his career as a theater and touring actor, has the skills to excel in acting even without the motion-tracking suit, as he has shown in movies like Black Panther and Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. But one can say that movies where Andy Serkis played a CGI character boosted his reputation - and his net worth :) - more than movies where he did not act behind a suit. After the Gollum actor proved it was possible to act even while wearing a silly hugging bodysuit, other filmmakers and actors followed. Tom Hanks used a suit in the film The Polar Express, as well as big names like Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie, and John Malkovich, who all needed to have their movements captured in the animated movie, Beowulf.

"Let me tell you how good Andy Serkis is. He played both Gollum and Caesar and those characters are as different from each other as a car and a horse-drawn wagon. It really is a talent, the way Serkis does these things. I wouldn't have bothered watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes if it weren't for Serkis, tbh. Now that I've watched the film, I want to collect the whole series."

"It's amazing how much intensity Andy Serkis can put into a motion-capture tech. Just watching Caesar makes you believe that this ape is really a new species. Andy Serkis is the best in the business and no one comes close."

"Andy Serkis has played an important acting and motion capture role in many modern films. This is a great pick from among them. This is not his best known role, which is likely Gollum in the Lord of the Rings films, but this is also a great pick. It's a good performance from Serkis, but also a widely appealing film as well."

"Well, he is used to playing the bad guys and Andy Serkis is at his best in the Black Panther. The crazy look on his face makes his character so believable that I want to watch a movie based on his character alone! Black Panther is one of the best films this year and Serkis' performance gave it credence."
