What are the best Anime about racing?

A
Dave - Binge.co Contributor

Sports-themed anime shows have been around for some time now with the first one being Captain Tsubasa that first came out way back in 1983. The genre has grown ever since, producing great shows such as Slam Dunk and the like. One of the lesser-known sub-genre that is equally as great is racing-themed ones. In fact, the first-ever series came out much earlier in 1967 in the form of the show Speed Racer. Racing anime shows have amassed a solid following since those early days.

Nowadays, if you ask any racing anime fan what would be the best show to start out with, chances are, the first one that they will mention would be the show Initial D and for good reason. The cult anime series is one of the best examples of a racing show done right. Deep character development, thrilling, high-speed racing, and is built upon a solid foundation of actual real-world facts and theories. The show has it all and is a good place to start your journey into this genre.

That's not the only great to see though as there are plenty of other racing anime shows that deserve your attention and a watch. To help you get started, here are some of the best anime about racing that you can check out first. Let us know in the comments what you thought of these and do pitch in with suggestions of your own if you have some.
