What are the best anime to watch if you like Fruits Basket?

Fruits Basket (sometimes abbreviated as Furuba or Fruba) is a shojo manga series written and illustrated by Natsuki Takaya. It was serialized in the semi-monthly Japanese magazine Hana to Yume, published by Hakusensha, from 1998 to 2006. It tells the story of Tohru Honda, a high school student who lost her mother to a car accident and came to live with her grandfather. Due to renovations, Tohru was forced to leave the house and live on her own in a tent in the woods. This is until she meets, Yuki Souma, the "prince" in her school who invites her to live with the Souma Family until repairs on her grandfather's house are finished. She soon realizes that the Souma family hides a dark secret, a curse. She discovers that if any of them is hugged by the opposite gender, they turn into one of the zodiac animals.

The manga series was adapted into a 26-episode anime series back in 2001 that was directed by Akitaro Daichi and aired on TV Tokyo. Both the manga and anime series was well-received by fans and critics alike. The series has been described as being intellectual while still remaining light-hearted. A reboot of the series was released in 2019 and we as fans were delighted. The second season of the series is set to premiere in April 2020 and we can't wait. Until then though, we thought it would be a good time to look at some anime like Fruits Basket that we could watch while we wait.
