"As always, Joyce Carol's writing is beautiful and subtle, while here managing to also be creepy and frightening. My favorite story in the book is "The Hunter," not so much for the subject matter, but the way it is written. She manages to take a topic that has been explored so many times and look at it with completely new eyes. Amazing as always. I highly recommend that any fan of Joyce Carol Oates or of horror or suspense writing not miss this book."

"I usually like reading anything by Joyce Carol Oates. This is a book of short stories , eight in total, and I really liked most of them. Some were a little short is my only complaint. She has her own style of writing that really gets into the characters she creates. I like how real and dark some of the characters and stories in this are. Most of the stories were excellent. Would recommend."

"Much better than Oates other collection of short stories these stories actually capture the genre they're trying for. The stories leave you jumping at every little creak and sleeping with the lights on. I will be checking out some more of Oates other horror stories."

"This is a wonderful collection of short stories by Joyce Carol Oates. Typically dark, macabre, and a little spooky, each story stands alone as a great example of prime Oates writing. Recommended for fans. If you haven't read her work before, but like bizarre and outlandish tales, this is worth a look."
