"Disney, Dr. Seuss and other books likely come to mind for any best beautifully illustrated picture books. Ferdinand is the world's most peaceful little bull. As long as you do not get the abridged version which is widely derided for cutting to much, it is becoming a classic on its own. So much so that it has made it to the movies. "

"The dragon's back, such a cute intereactive book and story. My sister inlaw, showed me this on one of my annual visits at her house. She had demostrated how mesmerized my nephew had grown to it, he pretty much was begging her to read it while he mouthed the words back to her. I was cracking up so hard, mind you he's 4 in a half, so seeing him so hyped up over the fire and explaining to his little cousin observing beside him, all these little answers. He even showed me a paper type of dragon that came with the book' I guess that allows the kids to build thier own dragons. I thought this was just the cutest book and story, it was very simple for the little ones to understand while actually having some type of meaning' you dont see that in kids books now a days. I'd definitely buy this when my time to be a mom rolls around, absolutely."

"If you are looking for something different to add to your child’s library, Snowbear Whittington: An Appalachian Beauty and the Beast Is worth considering. The story is a retake on the popular Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. However, the beast is actually a bear, and the story takes place in the Appalachian mountains. While I didn’t love all of the illustrations, the story itself is engaging. As a fan of fairy tales, I enjoyed this variation. However, aside from the illustrations, the other main drawback is availability. If you want to read it, you may have trouble finding it, unless you happen to stumble upon it in a used bookstore or buy it used off of a site like Amazon. "

It adds up to a charmingly different kind of picture book, and I can't help but think the subdued nature of the art helped now and then at bedtime."
