"WordPress is a great tool for bloggers, especially beginners. You do not need to know any coding or computer technical terms. WordPress lets you categories posts. It also lets you make drafts and autopost on a schedule, which is nice for blogging. There are a great number of free themes as well. It was easy for me as novice blogger to get going."

"If you're interested in an intelligent alternative to other blogging platforms that's not only entertaining, but engaging, then you might want to try Medium. The quality is top-notch and very curated; this isn't a blog for the casual blogger. You actually learn on this website, and can connect with other like-minded people. "

"GoNevis is definitely less well known as compared to its more famous competitors WordPress or Square Space, but it still holds its own well enough and is a good option to try out. It's the same basic principle as the other two, but has some character and also has the benefit of not being quite as commercial."

"Metalsmith is a newer blogging platform that will appeal primarily to people who are need to generate a simple, static built for a website. It doesn't come with the typical tools you would expect from other blogging platforms, and you need to know a bit about website sources and coding in order to make the most of it. It's still a stable platform that will meet the needs of certain bloggers, but if you are looking for something with a more visual, layman-friendly layout and platform, this isn't the best option. "

It does need to be installed off of Git but once it is, you have a choice of templates and add ons and it's faster than most other blog packages. Basically for intermediate to advanced users. "

"Although accessing memories via a digital file doesn't have quite the same feel to it as finding a shoe box of old photos in the closet when you are cleaning out Grandma's house, Lifetile.me is still a fun way to share memories. It allows for creating a timeline by assigning dates and locations that horizontally scrolls. What I like best about Lifetile.me is that you can store documents as well as pictures and videos."
