"The Mexican Mafia is a non-fiction book detailing operations of this California prison gang and how it grew from a small clique into a transnational criminal organization. It sounded like an amazing read about gang life, however its writing left me bored and uninterested at times. Much of the contents are nothing more than what I have read in newspaper articles beforehand. I was looking for much more insight in the gang and its members."

"I'm sure that the gangs in New Zealand are very compelling, but being from the United States and having lived in Chicago, St. Louis and visited Los Angeles I just can't imagine that better books haven't been written about gangs in America. These are forces that have shaped myriad facets of culture in my country and the death tolls alone make me think that this little fantasy is just a bit of fun by a woman who knows nothing about the actual culture. I could be wrong."
