"Wow. Just reading the book description made me cringe. I suppose this is good for the author to be able to get things out in the open, but I can't imagine why you would want to read it. If it's just detailing the abuse, I don't see how anyone could receive any help from it. "

"When Daddy Comes Home sounds horrific. It sounds like a great example of what is being searched for here. However, I would not enjoy this book at all. Someone who was interested in the subject or perhaps studying psychology might. Maybe someone who is dealing with his/her own traumas and reads this sort of true story. It's definitely not for me."

"Mummy Knew is a dark story about how sometimes parents can be just as evil with their inaction as they can be as abusers. If you know your spouse is abusing your children you should protect them and remove them completely from the abusive parent. This book highlights that and it had many of those anxiety fueled moments when you wish you could just step in and shake the mother by her shoulders to make her listen."

    #19Scarred

    Scarred
Scarred is an autobiography written by Sophie Andrews, first published in 2008. It tells the story of her childhood under the monster that is her adopted father.

Growing up, Sophie carried a terrible secret. She was her father's slave, in the most horrific ways imaginable. At just a few months old she was adopted by a couple that seemed comfortably off and perfectly respectable to the outside world. But behind closed doors, Sophie's childhood was a living hell. Her father spent the next decade grooming her for abuse and when Sophie's mother left for good, that very night, he told Sophie that from now on she would sleep in his bed. Unable to cope, Sophie spiraled into suicidal misery. She began to self-harm to try and escape the agony. But one day she went too far and at 16, ended up in a psychiatric unit. It was here that she finally confronted the horrors of home and began the painful journey of rebuilding her life. A phenomenally courageous woman, Sophie now works for the Samaritans and helps other young people in need. Harrowing yet compelling, this is a searing and truly inspirational account of overcoming the worst abuse and self-harm.
