"I don't know if Kentucky can get more relevant than this in terms of literature. Robert Penn Warren is a classic, and All The Kings Men is a great example of a fine political journey."

"The Bean Trees is really a sweet comforting novel that has a lot of Southern charm. It has familiar themes like family and relationships and is well-written. It's also interesting that this is Barbara Kingsolver's first novel. She hasn't written a ton in the past few decades, but it's always intriguing to see an author's early work."

"An interesting story about Kentucky one-room school houses and small town school systems in the late 1940's. The author chose a way of life that he adored and motivated many others to follow in his path. My copy is the 32nd printing of the book so I believe many others have found it interesting. Having taught in small towns I can relate to some of his problems and some of his solutions, some of which would land him in jail today. I enjoyed it a lot and would have given it five stars if it had a better beginning. Once into the book it is great reading."

"Like the Hatfields and McCoys, the Tolivers and the Falins are bitter enemies. Enter John Hale, and as hard as he tries to not be a part of their feud he is entangled because of his relationship with June Toliver. From rags to riches and back to rags, will love or loyalty unite or divide them forever? The Lonesome Pine knows. An amazing good book. I would give it 6 stars if I could."
