"As I have said before, I am a sucker for novels where twins or un-related look-alikes swap places, going back to Rosamond du Jardin’s teen romances about twins Pam and Penny, up through Anthony Hope’s “The Prisoner of Zenda” and Alexander Dumas’s “The Man in the Iron Mask”, and more recent takes on the meme such as Dorothy Sayers’ short story, “The Image in the Mirror.” Daphne du Maurier’s “The Scapegoat “ is another classic of the genre. Like most of the stories in the meme, the evil or incompetent twin is replaced by a better version of him/herself who first must discover the secrets and sorrows in the life of the person he/she is replacing, and then tries to set things right. In addition to being a classic of the genre, “The Scapegoat” is a great read. You should try it. "

"If you're a fan of Daphne Du Maurier, Hungry Hill won't disappoint, but there are better selections out there. True to her "moody" writing style, Hungry Hill is a mix of quiet suspense and mystery about feuding families. However, it was a bit slow for my taste. "

"Daphne du Maurier is an amazing author of historical fiction novels and one whose books i pick up frequently. However, "The Kinds General" was a great disappointment to me. The writing was verbiose and did not give a good way to connect to each character. It felt long and boring, which is a rarity for her novels. If you're looking for one of her best works I would look elsewhere!"

"The House on the Strand is a bit of a different type of novel from Daphne du Maurier. For example, the main protagonist in the story is male, which is a bit of a change as most of the books I have read from this author had a female lead. This is a brilliantly written novel, however, I still think Rebecca is her best work."
