"I've never been a big fan of George Pelecanos. His writing isn't original enough to appreciate on an artistic level and not executed well enough to enjoy in spite of it's lack of originality. Down by the River Where the Dead Men Go is unfortunately no exception."

"Short , but a pretty good, entertaining read that gives some pretty decent insights into the world of Journalism. The story and plot were pretty good and the characters engaging. I wouldn't say it was the best written book out there, but it kept me engaged and reading. "

"I'd call this modern-day-noir; it almost reads like a 40's detective novel, but updated for the times. The setting was well done, but I didn't really care for the dialog; it kept pulling me out of the narrative."

"Pelacanos takes you for a trip downtown into Washington DC rarely seen by the tourists. If you enjoy crime and fiction this will be enjoyable. Pelecanos weaves an intriguing story about a search for some stolen drug money, a battle for control of a neighborhood and a number of characters looking for a different direction for their lives. "

"I would have to say Shame The Devil is on my top list of sad novels that I have ever read but even then it is truly the best book by George Pelecanos. The novel is filled with lots of regrets such as coping with griefs and the choices they made that affected their life. However, there is a lot of interesting parts in the novel that is filled with criminal violence, drugs, and a whole lot of other things that will get you hook. Would highly recommend."

"Hard Revolution doesn't skimp on details; amateur detectives like myself will be able to pick up many clues as the central mystery unfolds. I adore the dark nature of these books, though they can get a bit violent at time. Still, Derek Strange is a great narrator and his cold, hard look at life and crime remains appealing."
