"Strong Motion? Rather, I say, a gentle vibration. Jonathan Franzen's novel Strong Motion has outstanding somnolent qualities. I've been reading this book since it's publication on April 30, 2003. If I need rest, I put on my jammies, and snuggle into my bed. I can open this book at random, and it's restorative properties take over. The next thing I know, it's morning and I feel refreshed. "

"This is a really self-indulgent book. A cash grab, I thought. Full of essays and speeches, basically it's one guy who likes to hear himself talk. He was apparently good enough at talking to convince a publisher to pick this up and run it out to bookstores everywhere, but I'm not sure why. Maybe he has dirt on the editors or something. Regardless, he's not a very polished speaker. I'm not sure even a great orator could make these interesting, or more coherent. They all read like an academic who's lost in his own little world divorced from reality and how things need to get done wrote up a bunch of esoteric proposals just to amuse himself."

"It's pretty boring. It's an accurate description of the authors life and growing up american, but living a similar experience it wasn't very novel to me. Other people might find it nostalgic though."

"This book consist of translations of a few essays and poems of Karl Kraus, with tons of footnotes and annotations to try to help get a better understanding of what Kraus was speaking about by Franzen. Franzen had the help of several people with high academic credit to translate the work. If you're interested in reading, the book is both English translations accompanied by the German originals, and this a great source of information on him. "
