"Owls Do Cry was one of the most significant books I have ever read. I was given the book as a birthday present when I was in fifth grade, and it was the first time that I really experienced the feeling of becoming so engrossed in a book you lose sense of time and the outside world. I remember thinking how incredible that feeling was, and it opened up to me a whole new way of reading. The book is beautifully written, you can tell the author is from New Zealand by her authentic descriptions, and that she knows something about pain because the struggle of the main character is sometimes so real you almost feel as if you were there. I would recommend this book to any age, I have read it a dozen times over, but it would be one of those break through books for a young adult that draws them into the story in such a passionate way that it will instill the love of reading in them forever."

"Who knew New Zealand had gangs? I totally missed that in all the promotional videoes. I guess gangs and their brutal stories are pretty universal. Do I want to read about that? Not really, but you might. "

"If women used for breeding and violence is your cup of tea then you might enjoy this Genesis story about just that. What woman wouldn't love having two men fighting to the death to see who gets to breed her? Obviously not a civilized place. In this day with all the hustle about me too, are these books really necessary or are we just longing for the good old days?"
