"This was a great book but frustrating to read. The main character could have saved himself so much trouble by just accepting help. I admire the determination but our protagonist is incredibly stubborn."

"This is a post-apocalyptic novel about a man and his son. The story is a bit all over the place at times. The characters do not have names and it makes the story a little more difficult to connect with them. Not the best or most interesting book that I have read lately."

"As a native of West Texas, I enjoyed the general feel of the book, with its descriptions of the land and the weather. Most of the characters seemed to be people I once knew. Writing about West Texas is difficult; I admire any writer who can get it right. Larry McMurtry does."

"I think this is a pretty good solution. The story seems really interesting and the fact that it is a true story is even better. My only hesitation is that it's a little expensive. "

"The lonesome dove series is wonderful. This book deals with the maturing of the American West and the passing of the generation that tamed it. bordering on American Gothic it is non-the-less much less dark than Comanche Moon or McCarthey's Blood Meridian. Of the series - this may have been my favorite after Lonesome Dove. Without Gus Mcrae to keep things lively - it just feels heavier. Gotta love the strong women characters in this book. They may have been missing in previous books."
