"Mary Shelly's classic horror story on which so many movies were based is worth the effort to read. It is not so much a horror story as it is a cautionary tale about obsession going too far and the dire consequences that can result from not considering the ethics or morality of one's actions. Though well over a hundred years old, the novel remains valid when considering the rapid advances in science that could result in a human life being created from parts of other humans that may well be possible in the future. It's a thought provoking tale that may seem dated but has themes that very much apply today. It should be required reading for any college bound student. Having knowledge about this book will serve you well!"

"I picked this book up from a recommendation from a high school teacher as I was heading into college and I was really happy that I got such good advice. This book tells a fairly typical story with good morals about treating people or animals how you would want to be treated but it does it in a very unique and fun way. Perfect book for anyone heading into college."

"The Red Badge of Courage is a nice to read book I would consider it to be one of the best books for college bound readers. There are also many classics book that people should read before this one tough like Hamlet or Mark Twain books. I even remember the times that I first read The Red Badge of Courage, so it will be a nice experience for you if you have not read it yet."

"If you're heading to college and haven't yet Brave New World, do it. Stop reading this and go do it now. The best thing to compare it to is Orwell's 1984 but the differences are illuminating. In Brave New World, instead of a boot stomping on the human face forever, there is an omnipresent drug that people take to gain pleasure. They live in tyranny of pleasure. They don't just take the drug, they also go about their business and have a lot of sex. Now you might think: sex and drugs, that sounds great! But read the book and you might reach a different view."

"While this translation by Longfellow is reminiscent of the Douay-Rheims Bible (Latin to sometimes mannered, even stilted English), this edition is splendidly bound and illustrated with the classic drawings on THE DIVINE COMEDY by Gustave Dore. The cover is red linen hardcover embellished with gold titles and a large black "engraved" Dore drawing. The book is oversized and comes in a superb box "book sleeve" for protection and display. Any informed and educated Catholic must read (at least once) and keep a copy of THE DIVINE COMEDY, but so should any informed and literate person. There are other translations that I prefer to this one by Longfellow (i.e., Mark Musa's in the Penguin edition also available on Amazon). However, this is one I will keep on my shelf for its beauty as an example of the book art alone."

I liked the insight into an actual college basketball team in the 60s and what winning and losing meant to them and those around them. But as it also deals with a abusive father, it can be quite a difficult read. I would recommend it, but with reservations."
