"I believe this is a good book for middle school aged girls, because the main character is young, strong, and independent. However, I cannot give this solution 5 stars because the Percy Jackson books are heavily focused on male heroics. Middle school girls also need to read stories with strong female leaders, so this book is good for entertainment but should also be balanced out with other stories. "

"I wouldn't give City of Bones to a middle school girl, not if I liked her or valued her taste in books. The characters are flat and colorless, the plot id this, and worst of all, the writing is terrible. Even the punctuation s terrible. There's a lot of good YA literature out there, a lot of it on supernatural and paranormal themes. This book is not an example of that."

"Catching Fire, from The Hunger Games series, is a fantastic book for all ages, especially teens. This book was a great culmination of the series and hits major topics such as stress and PTSD. Being able to experience this journey as Katniss, the main character, as the book is written in first person, young girls can feel as if they're part of this story. I do think it's important to read the other two books in this series prior to reading this book. Reading it independently will leave you sort of confused, but if you read them in succession, you'll find this book to be intriguing and a great emotional ending."

Especially given the current social climate, it's extremely important for girls to read about and know of strong, determined women, like Sam! The story is one of adventure - reading the heroine pull herself up by her bootstraps is one exciting tale! I would give this to my little cousin in a heartbeat."
