The stories of Winnie and his friends are timeless, yet their charm belongs to another era and I'm always happy to know that generation after generation of children will get familiar with that era through such a great vehicle. The illustrations are pared down and exude a serenity that is probably central to their charm, and very in tune with the text. Can't imagine a child who would dislike this."

I bought this to read with my 8-year-old at bedtime after he’d watched an Avatar episode, and instead all I got was a bunch of weird quizzes about episodes we hadn’t seen yet. (And the stuff from episodes we HAVE seen is just insultingly easy, like “who is the princess and heir of the Fire Kingdom”.) I can ask easy questions about the show myself, thanks. Dumb way to kill time, sad I paid money for it. "

The art is all photographs of painted watercolor paper treated to look like leather. So it looks like pictures of clothing that's been painted, which is a really strange thing. It's pretty. It's very stylized, probably intended to be in a specific Native American style. The artist is a descendant of Native Americans. Not particularly interesting. If your kid likes horses, it'd be good. About half the pages have no words and start with just a phrase like "And the dragon..." with two or more pages of pictures. I had bought it as a bedtime story for him to read to his little brothers and to match his knight in shining armor pajamas. In order to use it as a bedtime story I've instructed him to make up his own story for the parts that are wordless. This does little to boost his vocabulary but does allow him to use his imagination. The book is ok, just not what I was looking for and I couldn't tell that from the on-line information."

First off Bony-Legs is way creepier than most villains in children's books nowadays. She looks like a complete creeper. She's a great character. Secondly, despite this is meant to be a bit creepy, it has a good message....that being kind and caring about others really pays off. I have to say that the illustrations are awesome.
