"My wife and I are starting our kids out early on books, with the goal of having them fully literate before they go to Kindergarten. So we’ve had to buy a whole stack of kids’ books, and found that a lot of them are miserable; either too simple and boring, or too complex and bleak for a young child to enjoy. This is a really good one; imaginative, good characters, and a fun, funny plot. We’ve read it to our son three times and he loves it. The vocab isn’t crazy but it’s ahead of the curve for most of these books; he’s learned at least twenty or thirty new words from it, and more importantly, loved learning them because the book was so fun. I definitely recommend this to any other parents helping out a budding young reader. "

"My three year old niece absolutely loves bedtime stories and so I wanted to get her something fun for her birthday. After a bit of research I came across a book called "The Basket of Flowers" and decided to give it a try. I read through it and wasn't particularly impressed to be perfectly honest. It is very Christian focused which is fine but I just thought the story was a little too simple and might not be all that great for very young children. The characters aren't very realistic and the story is a tad dull really. It might be okay for slightly older children but I wouldn't recommend it for extremely young ones."

He was only 10 months at the time but I believed that the simple, straight forward pictures prepared him a bit. We read it for a few weeks before our trip and then each step of the way I would flip to a relevant page and point out familiar surroundings. Now that he is 3 and is obsessed with anything on wheels, the Trains and Trucks books have been added to his favorites. As he grew we were able to delve into more detail, explaining the scenes. He particularly loves the train crossing page as we drive over tracks daily and often are one of the "cars that must wait""

Specifically adults that enjoy English humor and know enough about British society/history for the late 1800's to early 1900's to be able to enjoy the references. You are crazy if you try to read this to little kids."
