"First, don't be fooled, this isn't the Disney version. In fact, forget that version exists - if you show it to your kids after reading them this, they'll be super disappointed. This book may be dated, but it's still great for teaching your kids timeless lessons. The characters are witty and funny, and they get up to great hijinks and raucous adventures. My father read this to me when I was young, covering an adventure a night. I hated Pinocchio at the start, because he was terrible; I grew to love him as he grew to become a real person. It taught me a lot of good life lessons. Now I'm reading it to my own kids, and while it's even older, it's still just as good. John and Sarah love stories where Pinocchio's antics hurt someone, and he manages to make it up to them. They're learning about responsibility and fixing their mistakes. They're learning what it means to be a real person out in the real world. (And they're also learning to read without making a fuss, which I really appreciate.) This is a great book for your kids and I highly recommend it. "
