"I recently went on a trip to the Florida Keys and discovered that is where Ernest Hemingway is from. I had obviously heard of his work before but never actually read one. I quickly fell in love with his prose and the extremely detailed character development. This specific copy was not my favorite as the print was small, but don’t let that deter you from the work itself."

"Story is well written, accurate in it's portrayal of South Florida's sometimes weird characters and coincidences. Dark but not uncommon type of humor. Nice, "take me away" story."

"This is a highly reviewed book and so is probably a good example. However, it has few reviews and is from a fairly unknown author. This may be because there aren't many writers from the Florida Keys, it's hard to know. Overall I think it's a good example of a good book from a Florida Keys author but there may be better."

"I grew up in the Florida Keys so i have a soft spot for writers from the area. This book is not for the uninitiated though. Read the first installments first, but this is one of the best of the series. Get your mai tai and fried conch and get ready for a great story."

"I'm surprised how well this book held up considering when it was first published but then again I could say this about all of Laurence Shames's Key West series. Well written with a entertaining characters that I honestly felt like I missed when the book was over. Yes it's a bit silly but that's part of the charm."

"While he didn't spend much time there, he did own a home and is one of the Florida Keys's most popular writers. "Papa", as he was often called, is celebrated in Key West and is well known for starting the colony of six toed cats that still live on his former estate. This book, A Farewell to Arms, is an exploration of one man's disillusionment with war. Set in Italy, an American ex-pat is an ambulance driver in the Italian corps, and falls in love with a beautiful nurse. This gritty book takes a deep look into the horrors of war and its affect on those involved. If you want to be well versed in books written by writers from the Florida Keys, you cannot skip Hemingway."
