"This is a gem of a collection of short stories, although most if not all of them are quite bleak and sad. I was hooked within the first paragraph on all of them and had to keep reading to learn what happened. I would recommend it for anyone who is wanting to get into Bolano's work without reading one of his longer pieces. This is a great little collection and each story is a masterpiece that will make you think and feel on all levels."

"A Heart So White is a book by Javier Marias and is available for $4.54. It won the 1997 Dublin IMPAC Prize for best novel published worldwide in English. The book is about how your past can affect the rest of your life. It doesn't have man reviews at all on Amazon, but the ones it does have are pretty positive. I just don't think that a book that has been out that long and doesn't have more of a following can fit the topic very well."

"The first translation I found of A Season in Hell and The Drunken Boat did not keep me engaged. When I found this new translation from New Directions I wasn't sure it would be worth it. I'm so glad I decided to read it! The translation is much better than the previous one I read and the poetry is fantastic!"

"This book was even more depressing than "The Road." I definitely like me an anti-hero, don't get me wrong. This takes it to a whole new level. From WWI to his death in Paris having failed as a doctor, the hero Bardamu displays absolutely 0 redeeming qualities. While this might seem to provide entertainment for some, at some point it's just overkill."

"I received this book as a gift. I am an avid reader, and I enjoy reading on many different topics. I was disappointed in this book. I like to escape reality when reading and this book was filled with grit of reality, for the charachters at every turn. I gave up about halfway through. Not one of Djuna Barnes best works."

"The Cantos of Ezra Pound is one of the best books from New Directions. The Cantos are classic, of course. Although it might seem petty or inconsequential, I’d like to point out that the physical book is a big disappointment. It’s a print-on-demand title with cheap paper and a bad binding…not at all $43 worth of book. It looks like the sort of counterfeit one finds for sale at a railway station somewhere in central Asia."
