  1. 2Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World

    6
A narrative particle accelerator that zooms between Wild Turkey Whiskey and Bob Dylan, unicorn skulls and voracious librarians, John Coltrane and Lord Jim. Science fiction, detective story and post-modern manifesto all rolled into one rip-roaring novel, Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World is the tour de force that expanded Haruki Murakami's international following.
  2. 3What I Talk About When I Talk About Running: A Memoir

In 1982, Haruki Murakami began running to keep fit. A year later, he'd completed a solo course from Athens to Marathon, and now, after dozens of such races, he reflects upon the influence the sport has had on his life and on his writing.

  1. 4A Wild Sheep Chase

    4
The man was leading an aimless life, time passing, one big blank. His girlfriend has perfectly formed ears, ears with the power to bewitch, marvels of creation. The man receives a letter from a friend, enclosing a seemingly innocent photograph of sheep, and a request: place the photograph somewhere it will be seen.

"As a runner, this book really spoke to me. I could relate to a lot of what Murakami was talking about when it came to running, and I've seen that a lot of other runners feel the same way. It didn't really inspire me to run more, or make me want to train harder, but it did remind me of why I love running. This book really spoke to that part of me."

"One of the arthor's early works, this Amazon page gives you a lot of info in the way that Amazon does. This particular one was pretty highly rated, and it would seem to be a good intro, though if you have limited time to read you might choose something later when he had developed his style more uniquely."
