"When I first saw the title on this list I thought it sounded like a sci-fi book or fantasy book or an alternate retelling of the Gettysburg Battle. Then I clicked on the solution and saw it was a Michael Shaara piece and knew right then and there it will be a good solution. I researched some reviews and many said it was well written, so I checked it out and found out it won a PULITZER PRIZE. OOOH. This is great!"

#5The Killer Angels (Civil War Trilogy)

The Killer Angels (Civil War Trilogy)
This historical novel is a recreation of the Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest four days in the American Civil War where two opposing armies fought for a way of life. Rather than focusing on the battle, the book explains the lives the combatants left behind.

"Retreat from Gettysburg is about the best book written about Gettysburg that you can readily still find in a bookstore. The action is so palatable that you almost can imagine yourself there amongst all the action. Sometimes I have trouble shaking off the feeling of being there, it's just so real!"

"This book tries to teach about the Civil War by making its protagonists young women who the author hopes the readers will relate to. It works well, up to a point, but there is a bit of that flaw so common to historical novels in which one of the main characters witnesses every important event imaginable. Also, I find it hard to relate to a sympathize with any Confedarate."
