"A thought provoking novel indeed, 'Snow Falling on Cedars' delves very much into the post WWII era in America. The story itself is capturing to the imagination though the horrific details included in the storyline help to paint more of a picture of the past than anything. After reading the book, I felt like I had a new respect for the Japanese that were interned in concentration camps, even though the novel is about a crime thriller. "

"A story about climbing trees may not sound that interesting, but this one about an autistic boy's interest with trees i found captivating. The many woodsy metaphors caused me to think deeply about nature and eternity."

"This book is about a person who spends his time living on an Indian reservation, part time. The author wrote about his experiences living in this manner. I found that the story is well written, it has moments of humor as well as social justice warrior issues. If your looking for something that is easy to read and will get some discussion about various topics this could be a decent read. I also found that some of the art was nicely done, the book is also decent for high school aged kids. "

"I must make a confession: I am a history buff and when I think about books taking place in Washington state, my history desire began to burn. So my problems with Eclipse being one of the best books to take place there aren't fundamentally with the book, but with the genre: I am not particularly inspired by the experiences of vampires, nor do vampires make me think of Washington (I looked it up, it's about 5,500 miles from Seattle to Transylvania). Washington state is as historically rich an area as any in the world. What better opportunity to get to know it than through a book, like, say, Frank Matsura's photographic reproductions. I gave a few stars for Meyer's craftsmanship, but I think there are better books taking place in a REAL Washington environment."

"A story of immigrants meeting in times of loneliness and bonding over their cultural differences of their youth. A young American boy named John meets a Japanese girl named, Keiko, and together they bond over the course of their stay at an internment camp during WWII. The story is bitter sweet and sometimes downtrodden, but ultimately endearing with the friendship that these two strangers share in times of trouble."

"Sometimes you don't want something ordinary, but you also don't want something too deep or heavy. Maybe you want something different and interesting, but you don't want anything too serous or unsettling. It can be hard to find a good book that fits the bill, but "Freaks I've Met" might just fit the bill. It's about a guy who goes to work in the financial sector, but there's way more to it than that. Jans Donald's style reminds me of Christopher Moore, or if Carl Hiassen wrote a book that takes place in Oregon instead of Florida, his usual stomping grounds. If you like either of those authors, it's a good bet that you'll like this one as well."
