"Jess Aarons has been practicing all summer so he can be the fastest runner in the fifth grade. And he almost is, until the new girl in school, Leslie Burke, outpaces him. The two become fast friends and spend most days in the woods behind Leslie's house, where they invent an enchanted land called Terabithia. "Someone told me this book is for pre-teens and teens! I disagree. Yes, it should be a must-read for those ages, but it should also be read by everyone! There are so many topics explored by this first time author, so many lessons to be pondered, for those of us at every age. There are so many things we forget that are important and R.J.Palacio gently reminds us as we learn from Angie, his hard-won friends, and his spectacular family."

"This is a great book that talks about how much of an impact a teacher can have on a student's life. While this book is far from realistic, it has a meaningful message about the teacher and anyone looking for this topic would be happy with this result."

"I love books that have inspirational teachers or mentors, and Fish in a Tree is definitely at the top of my list. A great story that even kids can relate to and understand, and more importantly learn from."

"This book is a great read for anyone, but young adults might get the most out of this. It shows how they need to speak up for themselves and not harbor all those inner thoughts that can leave them isolated."

"I read many Romana Quimby books in my youth. The light hearted humor coupled with simplistic lesson teaching is what makes these books very adaptable to the modern world. I have a young daughter and I read these books to her to make sure she gets the lesson that are derived from them. This one is a good lesson as being very aware of your actions and behavior. Thumbs up from here!!"

"Not really a book about inspirational teachers. Actually, quite the opposite. The teacher in this book is strict and inflexible and a disciplinarian. Frindle is written for kids, as the main character is a 5th grade student. A good and funny read for kids (and the adults who read with them) but you won't find a lot of teaching inspiration in this book. "
