"My wife has been struggling with weight issues for decades, which severely affect her self-image and mood. I gave her a copy of this book hoping it would make her feel better...and it pretty much did. The heroine is a big beautiful woman who finds herself the apple of a rock singer's eye. Thematically it was right on point, and my wife appreciated it. "

"I picked up this book for my daughter because she wanted to read a story with a character that matched her own body type. It was refreshing to find a book with an overweight character but that is really the only compliment I can give The Girl of Fire and Thorns. The main character Elisa had no self confidence and basically just walked off the weight during the story. Basically all they do in the book is walk. My daughter found the book to be very boring and hated Elisa. She quickly asked me to find her another book to read."

"This was more of a romance than anything else. I don't enjoy the genre so I did not finish the book as it did not keep my attention. I thought it a bad fit for the weight loss title tagline."

"This is an interesting and much needed storyline in today's society. So many people struggle with their weight that this gives them a good place to come and kind of get away from the stress of that and realize that there are people out there that can love them the way they are."

"It's stupid to fall for your brother's ex. It's even worse to enlist another's help to win the ex over. But Brody is desperate and Hayley, his partner in American Sign Language, is more than willing to lend him a few tips. She’s the school’s ‘matchmaker’, and with her bizarre and positive personality, Brody finds her easy to talk too, even about the most awkward situations. Hayley’s tips seem to be working, but as Brody learns more about his matchmaker, he starts finding reasons to spend time with her, and not the girl he thought he was in love with. But Hayley isn’t ready to fall for anyone. Labeled the “Funny Fat Friend” within her group, her self image makes it impossible for Brody to share his feelings without Hayley shrugging it off as a joke. Convincing her Brody can, and did, fall for the “Funny Fat Friend” turns out to be a lot harder than simply falling in love."

"This is the first book in the Love by Numbers historical fiction romance series. As far as historical romance goes, it's witty and humorous and has the sexy scenes that modern readers will love. However, the lead character is not embarrassed or ashamed of her weight, landing it a low rating on this list."

"I thought the concept of You Don't Have to Say You Love Me was fairly interesting. The overweight female protagonist loses weight, but she remains insecure, which was a good twist to a common plot of suddenly achieving self-esteem because of what amounts to a makeover. The problem I had with the book was the pacing, everything just felt a little off, and the characters came across as two dimensional."

"Depending on the weight of the characters involved in the novel, this could potentially be a good way to address the problem/topic. Romance is something people struggling with weight stress about, so I think that this will allow readers to relate to the characters nicely."
