"It took me about halfway through to really get into the book, but after that I really couldn't put it down. It was a really comforting read - reminded me a lot of the fantasy I grew up loving, what with the steal-the-stone plot and thieves and nobles riding through the land sniping at each other. The writing is nice and solid - the kind that makes it easy to really feel the heat and dust of traveling on a warm summer's day, and the world-building was informative without being made up of info-dumps."

"For me this book is all about the set up of regular life, even if it is in the past, mingling with secretive fantasy world. I love it when the story is not completely fantasy world. I would recommend it for both historical romance and fantasy readers. I'm only not rating it higher because it's a little bit older and on the heels of Game of Thrones I'm not sure if it would have the same impact."

"This is not a bad selection for books with thieves. It is a book about a thief who steals books, but there are better books out there with thieves in them! "

"Incredible, still. Artemis Fowl makes one of the best genre transitions, going from fantasy towards a kind of heist story. That was a wonderful change then, in 2009, and it's still fairly incredible to see now. There's not a lot of YA that can pull that off and it's genuinely so good I'd put it up there with non-YA fiction about thieves and heists."
