DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that although Nokia 3210 is considered to be one of the most ‘indestructible’ mobile phones because of its durability, Nokia 1100 is still considered the best-selling cell phone of all time with total sales of more than 250 million, and Nokia’s one billionth phone unit that was sold was 1100 in Nigeria?
After the unprecedented efforts to develop the transmission of speech through the radio, the wireless and portable technology was born. Amidst the large presence of Nokia brand phones in the industry, it was not the first company to develop the first hand-held mobile phone—it was Motorola. Engineer Marty Cooper from the Motorola company pioneered the cellphone-making industry by making the first cellular telephones. He called it the Motorola DynaTAC and it weighed 1.1kg. On the other hand, Nokia was at the cutting-edge when they introduced the candy bar-type of a cell phone for it was the size of a candy bar. Consequently, in 2000, Nokia made a hallmark and dropped the bombshell of Nokia 3310. The number of units sold skyrocketed to 126 million. Interestingly, the first camera phone was released in Europe in 2002 and it was the Nokia 6750. In 2011, a New Jersey Business article revealed that smartphones are taking over the traditional cellular phones as the first generation of iPhone was released in 2007. Today, the fast-growing industry of smartphones, internet service providers, games, and application markets are still in the groove.
