DID YOU KNOW?
Drone technology existed as early as the 1800s? By definition, a drone is an aerial vehicle that is not operated by anyone. Based on this, the first ever drone was first seen in 1839. Austrian soldiers attacked the city of Venice with unmanned balloons filled with explosives. Not long after, The Wright Brothers’ famous Kitty Hawk flight happened in the autumn of 1900. 16 years later, Great Britain developed the first pilotless winged plane. They called it the Ruston Proctor Aerial Target. The Aerial Target, based on designs by Nikola Tesla and radio controlled. It was much like the drones of today (though the technology was much more rudimentary.
Today, the use of drones has become much broader. The history of non-military drone use began in earnest in 2006. Government agencies for disaster relief, border surveillance and wildfire fighting. Corporations began using drones to inspect pipelines and spray pesticides on farms. Drone use also extends to private individuals. One of the most common is drones for aerial photography. Drones with HD cameras carry the same sensors that modern cameras use. This makes for some incredible landscape shots and 4K footage. While these drones can be pricey, recent years have seen a steady decrease in their price. This makes the entry into the world of drones much easier for any newcomer.
