"The loss of David Bowie was one 2016's most painful events. This event came as a shock for many people, who did not even know he was ill. A lot of his work following his seminal 70's albums had not received as much press coverage, but his final album was critically acclaimed. Many people felt like he greatly succeeded in putting his everything into it, knowing it would be his final creative work."

    • John DavisWritten on September 4, 2017
"The death of Carrie Fisher was probably not wholly unexpected, but it was still quite tragic. After playing an important role in the Star Wars movies in the 1970's and 80's, she had personal difficulties for some time, often heavily using drugs. This probably contributed to her death, which was well-publicized. It seemed as if she was bound to step back into the spotlight again due to the new Star Wars movies, but it was not to be."

"Just a relay site employing Wikipedia which in my world I go to when I want to use Wikipedia. Doesn't seem necessary but then it gets the job done so I think some might use it but.meh. No harm, no foul"

    • Arthur CruzWritten on September 4, 2017
"Prince was an absolute legend, and with Bowie one of the biggest and most devastating celebrity deaths of 2016. A talent and a personality like Prince's will never be duplicated. "

    • Mildred GarrettWritten on September 4, 2017
"A lot of notable celebrities passed in 2016 unfortunately. George Martin contributed heavily to the success of the Beatles, but given it was more behind the scenes it is hard to put him into the class of celebrities who left us in 2016."

    Alan Rickman

Alan Rickman (21 February, 1946 - 14 January, 2016) was an English actor and director known for playing a variety of roles on stage and on screen. He gained wider notice for his film performances as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series. • Philip HicksWritten on September 4, 2017
"The death of Alan Rickman was sort of overshadowed by other celebrity deaths in 2016, but more hardcore cinema fans definitely were affected by it. He was sort of someone that you might consider an "actor's actor". No particular one role defined him, though younger people would be most likely to know him from Harry Potter. It is unfortunate his death did not fully get the attention it deserved."
    • Mark JacobsWritten on September 7, 2017
"Every year celebs die and it sucks. We always lose someone that we have all known and loved. Alan Rickman was one of the best in my opinion. It really sucked for him to go. Hopefully we don't lose anyone else that was this great. "

Garry Marshall (November 13, 1934 - July 19, 2016) was an American actor, director, producer, writer, and voice artist best known for creating Happy Days and its various spin-offs, developing Neil Simon's 1965 play The Odd Couple for television, and directing movies like Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve, Mother's Day, The Princess Diaries, and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

    • Nicole SimsWritten on September 7, 2017
"The article on Gary Marshall on Wikipedia seems very thorough, listing the tv shows and movies he has worked on through the years. Generally, Wikipedia can be a great site for getting an overview on a topic quickly. The one problem I have with it, and that most people may not appreciate, is that it is not like a peer-reviewed journal article. The whole point of Wikipedia is to tap into the collective minds of people so anyone can post which means it can be biased. With that being said, the article on Garry Marshall is pretty straightforward so I think it's a good solution for this question. "
    • Steven WagnerWritten on September 4, 2017
"I grew up watching Happy Days, but never knew the name of the show's legendary creator. Later I watched Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries, and again didn't know that Marshall was directed these great movies of the 1980s. A talent and versatility like Marshall's is rare, and his death in 2016 continues to be felt by lovers of comedy everywhere."
