DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that The Sims’ success resulted in the game being awarded five world records in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008? One of the records held was the “World’s Biggest-Selling Simulation Series”, which sold 16 million units, basically 100 times more than game developer Electronic Arts’ original projection of 160,000 units. The Sims series, widely regarded as one of the best series when it comes to its character creation feature, also became the best-selling PC game in history just two years after its release. Additionally, the series has also claimed four spots on the top 15 best PC games of all time. Interestingly enough, most of its spin-off games have also met with positive reviews and massive sales, along with a high number of users purchasing their expansions packs from the market.
Despite finding its popularity on the PC, the series also has a large player base present on other gaming platforms as well. During the past few years, The Sims and all its subsequent games have been released on consoles like PlayStation 2, Xbox, and their older counterparts like the Nintendo GameCube and the Game Boy Advance, as well as an exclusive release on Android and iOS devices. And following the success of The Sims, more mobile games with customizable characters have been created.
