"You know a film is going to be great when Clint Eastwood is in it and this movie is no exception. Part of the reason why there are so few movies about the civil war is that it was such a horrific time in American history. It involved torture, senseless violence, and just an overall disregard for life. All of which this film tackles bravely."

"This isn't about the life and tribulations of President Lincoln as a whole. Rather, it focuses on one of the most important acts that the president made during his entire term, the abolishment of slavery. Speilberg's flair for the dramatic, as well as the stellar performance of the lead role as Lincoln, achieves this to great effect."

"This film takes a more down to earth and mundane (considering this is a war film) look at the lives of teenage boys who enlisted in the army for the thrill and adventure of it all and how the whole ordeal changed their lives and how they see it for good."

"The lengths that the director went to film this movie in the actual Gettysburg battlefield only adds to the realism and authenticity of the movie. The decisions and actions of key persons during that battle."

"Arguably the best and most famous civil war movie of all time. This movie touched upon many sensitive subject matters that Hollywood steered away from during the time but serves as a prime to this day."

"It was not the best civil war movie to be made in recent times. It did, however, took a more feminine-focused look during times of war and the old western era in general."
