DID YOU KNOW?
Civilization is a series of games that turns human history into a playground where players can exploit, based on turns, to bring glory to their chosen Nations. In 1991, Sid Meier’s Civilization was launched. It was a game that would define the turn-based strategy for over two decades. It paved the way for the birth of a new genre known as 4X. 4X is a creative term for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. Now, the game is on its 6th installment. Civilization VI was released on Steam on October 2016. The game peaked at more than 160,000 concurrent players which is quite a feat. But even with its success, it’s still not enough to surpass Civilization V. Did you know that Civilization 5 is still more popular than Civilization 6? Why is this the case? Is there a reason why 4X players still favor the older version compared to the newer?
There are many different reasons why many of the active playerbase on Steam still prefer to play CIV 5 rather than CIV 6. This is by no means a claim that CIV 6 is a far less impressive game. In fact, a sizeable part of the online community has already switched to the newer game. But, for those who remain with the older version have cited different factors. From price to features, to aesthetics all have varying importance for different people. Some might be fonder of the best Civilization V leaders present in the game rather than the latter. They may like the war strategy game design a whole lot better than the other. But for a simple answer, people are content with CIV 5. It’s the biggest testament to the game. How it has stayed as a fan-favorite is remarkable.
