"I got this book for my daughter who is going to college. Little did I realize that it wasn't meant for new cooks. That's okay though, because I kept it and have found it to be the best cookbook I've come across in quite some time! It's helped me expand my cooking horizons, to become better at mixing it up, if you will! I recommend it! "

"A book is a fine way to learn how to master french cooking, but I don't know how many people would learn well enough from a book--I personally didn't want to learn how to cook from a book. I would have preferred a video showing me how to master certain techniques and picking correct ingredients. "

"I think this book would be a great solution for people who lack culinary knowledge. It's available in both e-book format and hardback, so it would be ideal for anyone. I am skeptical of cookbooks myself, though. I bought a cookbook years ago that had 100 ground beef recipes made from "one simple recipe" (ground beef mixture), and every recipe I made was horrible -- and I am a great cook. I just wanted to try something different. I have never purchased a cookbook since then. This cookbook appears to be more versatile, and it has great reviews from known culinary experts, so I would give it a try!"

Anyone who is familiar with Julia Child’s cooking show will know her high praise of this classic – that says enough right there to its rightful place in everyone’s cookbook collection. "

"This was an interesting cookbook, but it was not practical enough for me. I got bored with the author explaining too many ideas about food rather than showing me how to actually make it. The cover, although different than most cookbooks, didn't grab my interest. If I saw this book in a bookstore or library, I definitely would not have picked it up to read or buy."

"I felt like this is a good cookbook, but isn't the solution for me as a 'best' cookbook. This cookbook focuses on Italian cuisine, and to me, being a best cookbook will have a variety of cuisines. So, there are some good recipes, but it doesn't quite meet the expectations as a 'best' cookbook."

"This cookbook teaches you about Malaysian food and culture at the same time; I liked it because it exposed me to some spicy dishes that I was honestly totally unfamiliar with. That said, some of the recipes require a lot of ingredients, which can be troublesome if you don't have any of them whatsoever and only plan to try a dish once or twice. It's helpful to have access to an Asian specialty food store. It's a nice book to have around, but just be aware that most recipes will require you to buy some items you probably don't have on hand."

"This book is more an overview of the author's travels than any real use to the home cook. The recipes are rather bland and more like something that you pick up in the "Japanese foods" section of the supermarket. There are books out there that are far superior than this one. If you like pretty pictures, pick this one up in the bargain bin. Otherwise, don't waste your money."

"I really love this book of recipes. I've been looking for Japanese cookbooks that don't rely on meat or fish, and this is the one. There are delicious and simple recipes in here from noodles, salads, soups, tofu, donburi, tempura, even homemade Japanese curry or gyoza from scratch. The only downside is that there are zero pictures in the book of the foods. But with the selection here, that really does not matter!!!"

"I love the beautiful diagrams in this book! I'm a visual learner, and seeing actual still images of charts and data makes the messages contained in this book really stick. Also with me having celiac disease and my husband on a keto diet, it is brilliant to have a cookbook that provides recipes that we both can create and eat with very little issue! And it can be read on my Kindle? SOLD!"

"I just needed a new good cookbook. Maybe something a little more unique and to add a little flair to what we have been cooking for years. This was a great book to add some new flavors to our traditional meals and gave some culture to our tastebuds. I really enjoyed learning some new things and it is always good to mix it up in the kitchen sometimes and adding a little french inspired flavors was a great way to get out of the rut. I highly recommend getting this cookbook."

"No this is not the best cookbook. It not a bad one though but not the best, especially because it's filled with foreign meals and as for me I would prefer something more American. Also I wish the book was more contemporary to make it more relatable"

"I do not agree that this is the best cookbook. Burma: Rivers of Flavor is a book about Burma and there are a few recipes sprinkled in. When I buy a cookbook, I am buying it for the recipes, not a story. Big disappointment with this cookbook. I tried one recipe and it burned to a crisp."

Ms. Madison does not have a one size fits all approach, but instead has thought out how to make each soup flavorful using custom stocks that are quick and easy to make without extending the time of preparation by more than 10 minutes."
