What are the best cooking anime?

From goal-driven pirates to athletic high schoolers, anime has allowed us to enjoy diverse stories. But did you know that there’s an entirety of anime series dedicated to food and cooking? You’ve read that right! With our love for food, it really isn’t surprising that there are numerous stories about it. Even in non-food anime, we can’t miss the casual cameos of the Japanese bento which seems to be a staple in almost every anime and of course, Naruto’s favorite miso chashu pork ramen. Honestly, I think it’s impossible that I’m the only one who badly wanted to eat ramen after watching him finish bowls of it. It’s also unlikely that I’m the only one who always gets impressed whenever I see Sanji cooking for the Straw Hat pirates in One Piece. With the way the foods are drawn and presented, even the rare instances of cooking scenes shown, anime has a special way of showcasing the culinary arts. If you love food or find enjoyment in watching people cook, you’d definitely enjoy anime about cooking.

Cooking animes not only focus on Japanese cuisine but includes a wide assortment of delicacies. There are series about bread, cakes, pastries, and even Italian and French cuisine. Not only are these shows mouth-watering, they’re also very informative and packed with life lessons. If you’re looking for shows to binge that spotlight delectable foods, check out our list of the best cooking animes and you’ll surely be saying "itadakimasu" the next time you eat. I do recommend not to watch these when you’re hungry as you’ll definitely be salivating a few scenes in. Did any of these make your mouth water? Leave a comment to let everyone know.

DID YOU KNOW?

If you're a lifelong Japanese culture fan, then you're aware that anime will never be complete without their scrumptious traditional dishes! Years and years of social, political, and economic changes had cultivated their cuisine into what it is today. Food is so vital in their culture that it has made its way into their media. Heck, they even made a whole new genre dedicated to food! Cooking anime shows have been so popular these days and it took the streaming world by storm. But instead of flaunting and animating their most delectable dishes, did you know that the most commonly seen food in anime is a plain onigiri? That's right, among thousands of choices, they still decided to showcase the good-old rice ball!

Onigiri is a food staple in Japan that can be eaten as a meal, a snack, or even as a side dish! It mainly consists of sticky rice and dried seaweed, but other variations feature other ingredients as well. Onigiris can be easily found in every convenience store and market around the country! Popular anime series like Pokemon and Shokugeki no Soma made onigiri look so good that fans can almost taste it. Even though it might seem like a plain snack, admit it, your stomach grumbled while watching!
