"Great idea, so-so implementation. Obviously the people you are sending messages to need to have the same app if you want to use encryption, but why can't I send non-encrypted items to my contacts? Seems silly to close off other users like this. Also, there's currently no way to disable the voice recording function, which gets accidentally hit more times than not. "

"Who ya gonna call for cross-platform encrypted messaging applications? Wickr sounds good on paper. All the right words, though ephemeral is one I wasn't really expecting. Will the cool kids even know what it means? I was a bit dubious till I saw the endorsement from the Electronic Froniter Foundation. "

"This seems to be a more "professional" way of encrypted messaging applications. I like the option that it can be free or you can "upgrade" for a small monthly fee. Video sharing is a great option especially since it is multi-user and who doesn't enjoy instant messaging at work, such a fun way to communicate small ideas or comments without sending an email! "

"I have recently looked into encrypted email because the idea of government eavesdropping is troubling. I had not reached the point of considering cross-platform encrypted messaging applications but if someone can view your private emails, it would make sense that they would also view other personal ways of communication (Voip, text messaging, etc.). Looking at the Riot site, it seems a little sparce. I would prefer if it included more information on the main page rather than offering a link. The blog does not offer a clear cut explanation of what Riot does or include a list of features. It may be somewhere on the site, but after some digging I did not see it. I would most likely move onto another option. I am intrigued, but because of the limited information, I do not believe I would try Riot. I do like the fact that it is open source. "
