Did you know that Curb Your Enthusiasm essentially helped free a wrongfully accused man from prison? Although The Car Pool Lane is a huge blessing to its fans, one man actually found freedom thanks to it. Back in 2003, a man named Juan Catalan was arrested for alleged murder, spending almost six months in jail. If convicted, Catalan could've faced the death penalty. His main alibi was that he was present at a Dodgers game along with his daughter during the time of the murder. Despite this, no evidence proved it. That is, until his attorney requested for the outtakes from The Car Pool Lane episode, which was incidentally being filmed at the stadium during that time. A clear shot of Catalan eventually proved that he was telling the truth, effectively clearing his name and was even the main subject of the movie documentary titled Long Shot.
Besides literally freeing a man from jail, The Car Pool Lane is widely considered as one of the best Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes. Moreover, this episode was also known for making famous its two extras, specifically Jorge Garcia and Kim Whitley, who are both known faces in different television series and sitcoms. Due to the episode's quirky and hilarious shenanigans, which is a common theme throughout the whole series, by the way, it's no wonder that the show became popular, despite negative feedback from some critics and fans.
