"This is a book that has an all new look at the dark side of society. It was written very well and is something I would recommend to many of my friends as a great novel. As is usually the case, the book is better than the movie."

"What can I say about this book? It was an instant classic from inception. It goes right along with my collection of Vonnegut, Orwell, and Dickens. The story was very trippy, dark, and if you haven't seen the movie you should check that out as well!"

"This book is all that the category suggests. The book is about a farm where the animals are slaved and mistreated to such an extent that they have an upheaval and take over the farm. The personification of the animals is what lends to the creepy sort of reality in this novel. Once you pick this up you will not be able to put it back down. Instead of looking at it as just a book try to identify real life, especially during that time period, to this book."

"In my quest to read as many classics as I can, Frankenstein has been one of the best dark books of all time. It is very different from the movie. You have to actually read the book in order to understand the Frankenstein Mary Shelly wrote about. The character development and imagery is second to none. Shelly's imagination is unparalleled and I really enjoyed how the characters were developed and how they relate to each other. This is a classic and it has quickly become one of my favorite books. "

"This book, "The Shining" is definitely one of the best dark books of all time. It was a truly scary story when it was first published in the 1970s. It is also one of the few books that was made into a successful movie that captured everything the book was about and more. "

"Fahrenheit 451 is an excellent example of a timeless story of what can happen when a society becomes too complacent. I have read this book many times and find it relevant every single time. There is not ultimate "happy ending" in the book, but it ends on the potential of what we can do and that makes it a good hopeful type of story. This book is one that everyone should read. "

"Not only a thrilling tale of almost believable proportions, Fight Club has almost made the leap from cult classic to mainstream lore. Chuck Palahniuk's interesting story of an underground 'Fight Club' has twists and turns galore as it spins the plot through multiple psychological zones and, without spoiling the ending, leaves the reader with a big question mark and a grin on their face in the finale. Highest marks."

"Franz Kafka is very well known for his literary works and The Metamorphosis can definitely be quite dark at times. It only has about a 4 out of 5 star rating on Amazon but I am sure that many consider it to be among the best of it's kind. I would be happy with this result if I searched for dark books."

"The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is one of my favorite dark classic books of all time. It is an insightful and cautionary tale of a despicable man who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for eternal beauty and youth. It was written more than a hundred years ago but the author's perception of humanity still loudly resonates today. The ending to this dark story was really poetic and just. I loved it and felt it was entirely fitting."
