David Michael Bautista Jr. is a former professional wrestler, MMA fighter and bodybuilder turned actor. He was born on January 18, 1969, in Washington, D.C. His mother is of Greek descent while his father came from a family of Filipino immigrants. He had a tough time growing up living in a harsh and dangerous neighborhood. It wasn't until he was 17 that he decided to leave home and be on his own. During this time, he took on various jobs such as being a nightclub bouncer, lifeguard, and eventually, a bodybuilder. He credited the latter as the one that saved his life and steered him towards a career as a professional wrestler. His wrestling career began back in 1999 and shortly signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 2000. He went by the stage name Batista, a modification of his last name.
From 2002 to 2010, he garnered fame and became a six-time world champion. He did so by winning the World Heavyweight Champion four times and the WWE Championship twice. He also holds the record for the longest reign as the World Heavyweight Champion at 282 days. He began his acting career in 2006 with roles in movies like Riddick and the James Bond film Spectre. He was popular for portraying Drax the Destroyer in the MCU superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy. He even appeared in the 2-part Avengers film epic, Infinity War and Endgame.
