One of David Bowie's defining songs is Starman, in which Bowie, as the alien from Mars named Ziggy Stardust and his band the Spiders from Mars, explains the power of music and being young wild and free.

"I love unique music, and David Bowie is very unique. My favorite Bowie song is Starman. He was an amazing artist, well before his time in my opinion. Starman is about an alien, and only the young seem to be able to see him. Its an interesting song and reminds me of the movie starman with Jeff Bridges"

The song Heroes was the second record of the Berlin Trilogy of Bowie's. He escaped to Berlin with his friends Iggy Pop and Lou Reed to avoid the cocaine habit that made him a living skeleton and his mind obscured by clouds.

"Here is one of Bowie's best songs. He's made quite a few transitions in his career. With this video he returns to a rock pop style with his use of synthesizers and noise generators. Bowie was one of the greats. Check out this vid of him singing one of his great songs."

    #4Ashes to Ashes

    Ashes to Ashes

Bowie returned to Major Tom character from Space Oddity eleven years after for the Scary Monsters album. Bowie, by this time, had quit drugs and this reflected on the lyrics of the song which he declared that "we know that Major Tom is junkie". The record was a big succes across the world and the return to funk, rock, new wave, synth and avantgarde music.

"The topic said best David Bowie Songs, but the solution only offered one songs. This Solution site only brought me to the music video of "Ashes to Ashes". After that one video, there is another David Bowie music video in the queue, but I don't know if the next music video is assumed to be under the topic of "best David Bowie Songs" or just another David Bowie song."

"This song is a great one. It is a different and irregular recording. The song has a interesting story line about an astronaut, which is based on the movie with the same title. "

    #6Let's Dance

    Let's Dance

Let's Dance was an album that contained three of the most successful singles in all Bowie's career. Let's Dance, China Girl and Modern Love. It was the last great album of Bowie of the decade.

After the glam era, Bowie wanted to try new music and started to explore with sounds like soul, jazz, and ambient music. From this exploration came the album Young Americans which gave Bowie its first American number one, the song Fame in which we find John Lennon at the background vocals. It was the first collaboration of Bowie with Carlos Alomar, one of the best musicians which Bowie has worked with.

#8The Man Who Sold the World

The Man Who Sold the World

The Man who sold the World was the record where everything started. Bowie started to dress in an androgynous way, with blonde long hair and fancy costumes. The music on the record was almost heavy metal, according to what was Heavy Metal in the 70s, but still hard enough to be compared with Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, two British bands that started their careers recently with great success. The homonymous single of the record is a rock, ballad with an iconic riff of guitar that was later recovered by Nirvana in their Unplugged record.

    #9Rebel Rebel

    Rebel Rebel

Rebel Rebel was the epilogue of the glam rock era for Bowie. An era that ended with the record Diamond Dogs, the sleaziest record of Bowie. Rebel Rebel is built on a hypnotic rock guitar riff that is perfectly assembled to a lyric about sex, party nights, rock and roll, drag queens and rebellion against the old-fashioned manners.

"David Bowie is gone but his music is not. Some of his songs stand above the rest and really define David Bowie. Rebel Rebel was one of those songs. When you hear it, you know within seconds that it's David Bowie because it was definitely one of his trademark songs."
