DID YOU KNOW?

Just when you thought the first ever person to get a hold of the death note was Light, the truth is--he wasn't. According to an articled published by Stephanie Marceau, when Light found the Death Noted on the school grounds, it seems like someone must have purposefully abandoned it. Well, who honestly thought of that? It's pretty much of the hidden details about Death Note everybody missed! This information can't easily be surmised just by watching Death Note anime, but when you try to read the manga version, a short story about a different person is there to somehow walk us through the story.

Also known as Desu Noto, Death Note is a Japanese supernatural manga series, infused with some elements of thriller. It has become a staple thriller in a lot of anime websites, yet an interesting number of theories have risen due to die-hard fans who have dug deeper to know the origins of everything--or everyone in this case. For instance, do you actually know about L's complete origin? Well, creator Tsugumi Ohba confirmed L's identity. Did you know L is part English and part Russian? Perhaps, the mystery that's just sitting there, waiting to be unraveled, is one of the reasons why Death Note is considered a brilliant piece of work. In fact, shows like Death Note are created to satisfy everyone's itch to read a manga or watch an anime that revolves around death, justice, and the juxtaposition of good and evil.

If you are on the lookout for anime that's as good as Death Note, or perhaps another set of the best dark anime out there, browse through our list.

"I love Future Diary. This is an awesome sci Fi fantasy story about a boy who is a loner. He decides to start a diary on his cell phone. He creates an imaginary character that he talks to that he pretends to be the God of time and space. Little does he know that his character ends up being not so imaginary. And this fictitious character makes the main character participate in a battle with 12 other people to become the next God of time and space. Each of the 12 competitors is given a diary that has secrets of the future. And they must all use the diary to survive. The story has a lot of action and mystery. And there is a girlfriend involved. And it's a really great suspense thriller. I highly recommend it."

"Psycho Pass is a great cyberpunk crime anime. It shows the truth about human nature and is filled with action and excitement. It's filled with malicious crime and has some darkness. It's very futuristic and suspenseful. It keeps me on the edge of the seat. Highly recommend this anime. The story and plot are awesome. As well as the plot twists. Something I can re-watch and feel satisfied doing so. Watch if you like dark, complex and intense stories."

"After finishing Death Note recently, I was desperate to find something that I enjoyed as much as I enjoyed that series. I researched for another anime to fill the void, and I found Code Geass. It is exactly what I needed and maybe more. It was a very satisfying anime, and really stood on its own as a great watch. If you are looking for an anime to replace Death Note, or if you just want to start a great series on its own check out Code Geass!"

"I absolutely love Serial Experiments Lain and think that if you like anime at all, or are at all interested in modern society, you'll love this series too. The themes are as salient as they've ever been, perhaps even more so, and the artwork and writing are wonderful in and of themselves. I've used this series to introduce others to the world of anime and think it shows just how deep and powerful the medium can be."

"I like "When They Cry", produced by the Japanese animation studio Studio Deen and directed by Chiaki Kon, as an alternative to the highly popular Japanese manga series "Death Note". I find that this Season 1 Blu-Ray of "When They Cry" series is very unique and is a worthy alternative to the "Death Note" anime Blu-Ray options."

"I was looking for an alternative to the anime series Death Note and I found the series Death Parade. It was a great short run anime series, that felt a lot like Death Note. They both have a fantasy plot with a dark edge while dark powers are encountered and sometimes abused. Great!"
