"Crypt of the Necrodancer is a great game for gamers who love dungeon crawlers. It's a fun combination between Diablo and Zelda, with throwback graphics and sound that make it a balst to play. You get the best of both worlds -- modern gameplay with the nostalgic graphics and sounds from the old Nintendo games from back in the day. "

"You want a Dungeon crawler and this is literally named "Crawl," so I'd say it's already off to a great start. It's well rated for a reason: the gameplay is fun, the multiplayer is enjoyable, and if you're competitive there are plenty of options."

A dungeon crawler is a subgenre of role-playing games, characterized by the exploration of a labyrinthine environment while battling monsters, looking for treasure, and defeating the enemy in aa occasional boss battle. The term “dungeon crawl” is analogous to “bar crawl,” since the player usually fights his way across dungeon room to dungeon room. A “dungeon” in this case does not only refer to an underground prison, but to any subterranean environment. As a genre, it was influenced by the tabletop game Dungeons and Dragons, as well as J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous works, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series.

Dungeon crawlers are closely associated with roguelike games. Roguelike games and dungeon crawlers have the same progenitor, the 1980 game Rogue. Rogue set the standards and defined both genres. However, dungeon crawlers are much more diverse than roguelike games as roguelikes, by definition, are “games that are like Rogue [in features and characteristics].” The 1980s was a pivotal point for PC RPGs and dungeon crawler games for alike. During that period, the complexity and gameplay of computer games were significantly limited by the lack of storage capacity and computing power of the computers. The tile-based graphics of the time were actually effective in building mazes because they resulted in similar-looking environments.

Darkest Dungeon is a great game that has a unique style the brings to life multiple hellacious dungeons that seem like they are plucked straight from the pages of a Lovecraft novel. Training my team of explorer/warriors was a lot of fun and the battles are surprisingly tactical. I cannot recommend this game enough to horror fans."

    Ramón Valencia
    Written on September 20, 2017
"Transistor is a rather compelling modern ARPG game, though it's not exactly what I think of, when I think of a traditional Dungeon Crawler. It has turn-based and sci-fi elements that make it difficult to classify, so those looking for a game in a particular genre might be surprised, though they will probably enjoy the game if they are simply open-minded, as objectively, it is pretty good. The game's dynamic soundtrack is also quite fitting for the worlds it establishes, and it can even potentially stand alone as something worth listening to, which not many games can claim."

"Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition makes for a good dungeon crawler game, but only as a single-player. Online play is full of bugs and just pure frustration overall. If they could fix that it would be a definite recommend, but I'd call it a reserved look. Don't expect too much but you may be pleasantly surprised."

"Why do almost all games have evil, death and killing in them? The first thing you see is the rating that indicates it has "blood, gore and violence." Not what I am interested in as far as games go. Plus, I am of the opinion that very few parents even have a clue as to what types of games their kids are playing. This type of game is not for me. But, as far as the graphics and action go, it is quite advanced for a game you can play on pretty much any computer. The graphic designers for the game sure nailed the look for the genre."

"I had a lot of hope for this dungeon crawler FPS game on Steam, Ziggurat. The game promised immersive action and a lot of different rooms to explore and get through. But I quickly found a way to "beat" the game, and now I find that the gameplay is pretty repetitive. It was fun while it lasted, but I don't think I'll have Ziggurat on regular rotation. "
